It's one of the most talked about books this year! Everybody has something to say about Her Master's Courtesan!
I am a Master. You must know this fact to understand my story. I capture women. I break them down. And I rebuild them. If they are lucky, they are sold into the professional hands of another Master. If they are less fortunate, they are buried beneath the ground, never to be thought of again. I lust for the control, I demand absolute submission and my body yearns to warp the minds of those I train. Power is the only thing I’ll ever need and I am addicted to the feeling of ultimate control. I am wealthy, good-looking, educated and charming. And I am - in no way - a good man. I do not want love. I do not want kindness. She thought she could change me by giving me the two things I knew I never wanted. She was wrong. |
A Sneak Peek!
I heard steps approaching and when they stopped, his voice boomed out above me.
“You will refer to me as Master. You will only speak to me when I’ve asked you a direct question.”
I didn’t answer. Despite my nascent understanding that I was to submit to his demands, I couldn’t bring myself to respond and tell him that I would, in fact, submit. The idea rubbed across my thoughts like sandpaper – irritating and crude – the acts he’d already committed against me, making me detest him with such vehemence that I imagined returning to him the same level of violence. It was the first time I’d ever considered hurting another person and I felt the heavy weight of disgust with myself for believing that I would enjoy harming him, even though he was intent on harming me.

My Take On It:
First, I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Now, on to the review:
Holy freaking crap! I'm not even sure where to start. I don't do spoilers and it's going to be hard to do this without them, but I'll give it a shot. This was, by far, the darkest book I've ever read. Darker than I expected. I have never read a book that made me hate, and I do mean HATE, one of the main characters. I seriously wanted to do him harm. I was like a tiny little cheerleader in the background, urging Rebecca to rain mayhem and a world of hurt down on Aiden's head. The fact that she didn't goes a long way to telling this story, although I didn't know it at the time. To say that Aiden is the master of the mind-fuck is putting it lightly. Somehow Lily White has managed to completely include the reader in the whole story and go through all of the emotions and ups and downs as Rebecca experiences them. I swear, at one point, I actually jumped at the snap of the lash! It's totally mind blowing. You definitely have to go into this book with an open mind, and be ready to go on a hell of a ride. You won't be sorry, and you might just learn a little bit more than you intended!!
Who is she?
Lily White is a dark writer who likes to dabble on the taboo side of eroticism. Most of the time she can be found wandering around aimlessly while her mind is stuck in some twisted power play between two characters in her head. You may recognize her in public by the confused expression, random mumbling, and occasional giggle while thinking up a scene. Lily’s favorite things in life are reading, thinking about reading, buying books for reading….and writing. Her other secret pleasure is meeting with her plot editor in public to discuss her books and watching the shocked expressions of the people around her that don’t realize she’s talking about a book. When Lily is not reading, writing, wandering or freaking out innocent bystanders, she’s sleeping.
